The ink is permanently pressed into the fabric using a design process called sublimation. Sublimation intentionally makes for a trendy slightly weathered, distressed and vintage look. This is deliberate. Since the ink actually becomes part of the garment, it can not be felt by touch. Therefore, it will not weather or crack over time.
